About us

1972 - Fastiv, Ukraine
Our beginning.

1990 - Leaving Ukraine
One last photo before departure. Father and son, carrying a lifetime of memories into a new beginning.

1991 - Main Street, Winnipeg
When the language barrier made stable employment difficult, our family relied on the craftsmanship we had developed in Ukraine.
We opened a store on Winnipeg’s Main Street, where we handcrafted fur hats, mittens, and mukluks for Manitoba’s demanding winters.

1993 - Keeping Winnipegers warm
Our work eventually extended beyond the storefront, including handcrafted hats produced for police departments and local retail stores.

1994 - Canadian Citizenship
A proud milestone in our family’s new life in Canada.

1996 - The Forks Market
After closing our Main Street store, we moved to The Forks Market, where Shekhman Furs continues to operate today.

2001 - Our Jewelry Manufacturing Company
In 1996, part of our family relocated to the United States to pursue opportunities in jewelry manufacturing, while others remained in Winnipeg operating Shekhman Furs at The Forks Market.
After several years of industry experience, we founded our own jewelry manufacturing company in 2001. Continued growth led to the purchase of our own manufacturing building in downtown Los Angeles in 2004, laying the foundation for decades of craftsmanship and manufacturing expertise.

2025 - Winnipeg Engagement Rings
Allen, the grandson of the family’s original founders, studied economics at the University of Manitoba while working in the family’s jewelry manufacturing business.
After managing the distribution of our jewelry to retailers across Canada, he drew on that combination of business education and industry experience to establish Winnipeg Engagement Rings.
Today, decades of manufacturing experience and an extensive industry network allow us to guide clients with confidence, offering exceptional jewelry backed by expert craftsmanship, thoughtful sourcing, and outstanding value.
